Serious Injury Crash Investigation near E 56th Av/Lake Otis Pk

Update on 4/29/24:

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Mark Mina.  Next-of-kin notification has been completed.

Update on 4/27/24:

The victim passed away at the hospital on April 27, 2024, from injuries he sustained in the vehicle collision.  His name will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

The roadway was opened at 11:08 PM.

Update at 9:10 PM:

Initial indications are that a Chevy Spark was travelling eastbound on 56th Avenue, and was making a left-hand turn onto northbound Lake Otis, when it was struck by a BMW motorcycle travelling southbound on Lake Otis.

The adult male motorcyclist was transported to a hospital by AFD Medics with what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The adult male driver of the Chevy was evaluated by medics at the scene for minor injuries.  He has been cooperative with the investigation.  The factors that contributed to the collision, to include who had the right-of-way, are still under investigation.  No charges have been filed.

The road closure is expected to continue for a few more hours.

At 6:42 PM on April 26, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to the area of E 56th Avenue and Lake Otis Parkway regarding a crash with injuries.  Both the north and southbound lanes of Lake Otis, between E 56th Avenue and Pago Pago Avenue, are shut down.  The affected section of Lake Otis is located just to the north of the intersection with E Dowling Road.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit (MCIU) will be responding and processing the scene.  Please avoid the area.
