Daniel Kingosak facing multiple charges in hit-and-run collision
At 3:56 PM on March 20, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to Old Seward Highway and E 76th Avenue regarding a hit-and-run crash. Initial indications are that 33-year-old Daniel D. Kingosak was driving a 2004 Nissan southbound on Old Seward when he struck the back of a 2009 Chevy which was also travelling southbound. Witnesses stated that prior to the collision, Kingosak was unable to maintain his lane of travel, and at one point was straddling the dividing line between both southbound lanes. After the impact, Kingosak fled the area on foot.
Before officers arrived at the scene, it was relayed to APD Dispatch by a citizen that Kingosak had thrown a gun into a snowbank while he was running. It was further reported that at least one citizen ran after Kingosak, caught him, and escorted him back to the scene of the crash.
Upon arrival one officer contacted Kingosak while another officer, with the help of a witness, located the handgun Kingosak had discarded. While speaking with Kingosak, the officer noticed signs of drug impairment. After administering Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), the decision was made to charge Kingosak with Driving under the Influence.
When the officer and Kingosak arrived at the Anchorage Jail, but before they had gone inside, the officer asked Kingosak if he had anything in his possession that he did not want to take into the jail with him. Kingosak stated that he did not. The two went inside where Kingosak provided a breath sample showing his breath alcohol content was zero. The officer obtained a search warrant for Kingosak’s blood which was subsequently drawn by a phlebotomist.
Kingosak was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, two counts of Assault III, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III, and DUI. While Correctional Officers were processing Kingosak for remand, they located a baggie on Kingosak’s person that contained a substance which field tested positive for meth. Kingosak was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V and Promoting Contraband I. He was issued citations for Driving While License Revoked, Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance, and Failure to Obey Traffic Citations (for being on the Scofflaw List).
The adult female driver of the Chevy experienced pain from the crash and her vehicle had to be towed due to the damage it had sustained. She was evaluated at the scene by medics.
