Death Investigation on the 700 block of N Flower Street

Update on 07/27/23:

From the Attorney General’s Office:

Yesterday, an Anchorage grand jury returned an indictment charging 34-year-old Joshua Jordan Oktoyak with one count of murder in the first degree and two counts of murder in the second degree for the stabbing death of C.A. in the early hours of July 12, 2023.

 These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

 Oktoyak is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections. His bail is set at $500,000 cash performance and $200,000 cash appearance plus conditions of release, including supervision by the Pre-Trial Enforcement Division. He faces up to 99 years for each of the charges. Oktoyak is scheduled to be arraigned before the Superior Court on July 28, 2023.

 

Update on 7/20/23:

At 8:37 PM on July 19, 2023, APD police officers assigned to the Investigative Support Unit (ISU) saw homicide suspect Joshua Oktoyak walking down the sidewalk on the 2800-block of E Tudor Road.  Officers contacted Oktoyak near the intersection with Piper Street.  Oktoyak was only partially compliant with commands but was ultimately taken into custody without incident.

Oktoyak was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. Afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his felony homicide warrant.

ISU, K9, and swing shift patrol officers were involved in the suspect’s apprehension.

APD Case 23-23105

Update on 7/19/23:

34-year-old Joshua J. Oktoyak has been identified as the suspect; he and the victim were known to one another. 

On July 18, 2023, APD detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for Oktoyak for the charges of Murder I and Murder II. 

Oktoyak is 6’01” tall, 230 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.  Anyone with information regarding Oktoyak’s whereabouts is asked to not contact him, but to notify APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (option #0).  Dial 9-1-1 if it’s an emergency.  To remain anonymous, you may submit a tip online at www.AnchorageCrimeStoppers.com      

The victim’s identity will not be released as this is a domestic violence-related crime.

Update on 7/13/23:

This death is now being investigated as a homicide.  There have been no arrests and there is no suspect information available for release.

At 8:17 AM on July 12, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 700-block of N Flower Street regarding an adult female deceased inside the home. Officers made observations that have prompted them to take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Crime Scene Team will be responding to process the scene. Ultimately the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
