Due to a citizen complaint, James Prince and Maggie Sizemore are facing drug charges.

At 2:13 PM on May 31, 2022, a patrol officer was flagged down by a citizen regarding two people passed out in a vehicle in a business parking lot on the 2300-block of E 5th Avenue.  Upon arrival officers located a red Ford Ranger with an adult female in the driver’s seat and an adult male in the passenger seat.  Both appeared to be sleeping.  Officers went to both sides of the truck to wake up the occupants.

The passenger was later identified as 34-year-old James D. Prince.  There was a loaded syringe sitting on his lap.  While speaking with James, officers noticed signs of impairment.  James exited the vehicle and was detained without incident.

The driver was later identified as 32-year-old Maggie L. Sizemore; she had a loaded syringe lying on her lap.  Once Maggie woke up, the officer advised her to put a cap on the needle and place the needle on the dashboard.  Maggie grabbed the syringe, quickly emptied it onto the floorboard, and then placed the now empty syringe on the dash.  As Maggie stepped out of the truck, another needle fell to the ground.  A baggie containing a substance that field-tested positive for meth was found on Maggie’s person during the pat search.  Officers conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs); afterwards the decision was made to arrest Maggie for Driving under the Influence.

Both Maggie and James were transported to the Anchorage Jail; James Prince was remanded for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V.  Maggie was further processed for the DUI charge.  After she provided a breath sample showing her breath alcohol content was zero, officers obtained a search warrant and subsequently had her blood drawn.  As officers were preparing to transport Maggie to Hiland Correctional for remand, they asked her if she had anything on her that she was not allowed to have in jail.  Maggie stated she did not.  The officer further warned Maggie that if she did have something on her that she was not allowed to have, that it would be an additional felony charge.

Maggie Sizemore was transported to Hiland Correctional for remand on the charges of DUI and Tampering with Physical Evidence.  During processing, Correctional Officers found heroin on Sizemore’s person.  She was additionally charged with Promote Contraband II.

If you see something, say something.  APD is grateful to the citizen who notified police regarding the two defendants passed out inside their vehicle.
