Due to a REDDI Report – Jae Walls arrested for OUI and a Weapons Offense

At 3:41 AM on April 17, 2022, a citizen called APD Dispatch to report a GMC Sierra pickup that was swerving all over the roadway and up onto the curb.  While on the phone with the dispatcher, the caller stated the suspect driver had pulled up to an intersection and then passed out behind the wheel.   Two IDEU officers (Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit), and the IDEU sergeant, responded and located the silver pickup at 5th Avenue and Concrete Street.  The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Jae Q. D. G. Walls, woke up as the officers were blocking in his vehicle.  Walls tried driving both backwards and forwards to break through the block; he was unsuccessful.  Police began giving Walls commands.  Initially Walls did not comply, but he eventually turned the engine off and threw his keys out of the window.   Once Walls exited the truck and was taken into custody, officers noticed multiple signs of impairment.

Prior to taking Walls into custody, several mid-shift officers arrived at the scene to assist.  Once Walls was detained, officers looked in the pickup and saw a handgun lying in plain view on the driver’s seat.

Walls was transported to the Anchorage Jail where he participated in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).  He also provided a breath sample which showed his breath alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit.  Walls was remanded at the jail on his five outstanding warrants (four of which were OUI related).  He was additionally charged with Operating under the Influence and Misconduct Involving a Weapon – Drunk in Possession.  He was cited for Driving on a Revoked License.

REDDI – Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately by calling 9-1-1.  APD is grateful to the citizen who saw the reckless driving, alerted police, and followed the suspect from a safe distance until officers arrived at the scene.
