Fatality Investigation Near Seward Highway and E 36th Avenue

At 9:07 PM on September 20, 2024, Anchorage Police Swing Shift Patrol Officers responded to a pedestrian-involved vehicle collision.  Initial indications are that an adult male was crossing the northbound lanes of the New Seward Highway, approximately 500 feet south of the crosswalk at E 36th Avenue, when he was struck by a Subaru.  That same pedestrian was struck a second time by a Toyota; he was transported to a local hospital by AFD Medics where he was ultimately declared deceased.

No citations or charges have been filed; the investigation remains open and ongoing.

The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded to process the site.  All northbound lanes of the Seward Highway, between Tudor Road and E 36th Avenue, will remain closed while that occurs.  Traffic is being directed off the highway onto the Tudor off-ramp.
