Heather Hutson Facing Several Charges in Burglary Investigation
At 12AM on April 17, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to the 3300-block of the Old Seward Highway regarding a vehicle that had flipped over. Initial indications are that a white 2023 Ford F650 dump truck was being driven northbound on the Old Seward Highway when the driver failed to negotiate the turn leading westbound. The truck turned over onto its side and struck the guardrail.
When police arrived at the scene, multiple witnesses pointed out the female driver who was leaving the area on foot. Officers contacted 24-year-old Heather N. Hutson in a nearby parking lot; she was subsequently transported to a hospital for evaluation of injuries sustained in the crash.
Through the investigation it was determined that Hutson had forced entry into a business through a window, entered the garage portion of the property, and drove off in a brand-new Ford owned by the company. It was after hours and therefore the business was unoccupied at the time of the burglary.
Once medically cleared, Heather Hutson was taken to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. Afterwards she was remanded at Hiland Correctional on the charges of Escape II (for cutting off her ankle monitor), Burglary II, Theft I, and Vehicle Theft I. Officers did administer SFSTs (Standardized Field Sobriety Tests) but did not develop the probable cause necessary to charge for an OUI (Operating under the Influence) offense.
APD Cases 23-12276 and 23-12278
Anchorage Police are grateful to all the crash witnesses who pointed out the suspect to police and gave statements.
