Homicide; 200-block McCarrey Street

An Anchorage grand jury today indicted Moses Tony Crowe for the shooting death of his sister on Thanksgiving Day.

On that day, the Anchorage Police Department received 911 calls shortly after 3:00 p.m. requesting medical help for a shooting victim. According to the initial charging document, the victim had been seated in a chair with her one-year-old child in her lap when Crowe, her brother, pulled out a handgun and aimed it at her. A witness stated that the gun went off, hitting the victim in the head. Both Crowe and his sister had been visiting the home of relatives who were preparing the Thanksgiving meal at the time of the shooting.

The indictment charges Crowe with Murder in the First and Second Degrees. The victim was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injury.

Crowe is also charged with one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the Fourth Degree and ten counts of Unlawful Contact.

The charges against Mr. Crowe are only allegations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty. If convicted at trial he faces between 30 and 99 years of imprisonment for Murder in the First Degree and between 15 and 99 years for Murder in the Second Degree.

Crowe is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges on December 10, 2019.

The victim will not be named by APD as this is a DV Crime.

Moses Crowe was charged with Murder II. His arrest was as a result of a joint effort between patrol officers and SWAT. As the investigation progresses the prosecutor may add or amend charges as necessary.

Update on 11/28/19 at 8:40 PM:
The suspect was taken into custody by officers working the perimeter without incident. He will be transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives before being remanded at the Anchorage Jail.

Update 11/28/19 at 7:10 PM:
Officers are conducting another K9 track on the 200-block of McCarrey. Please avoid the area or stay inside if you live within the perimeter. Please follow all officer instructions.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Moses T. Crowe. He is a Native male, 6'02" tall, 240 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. If you have information regarding his current whereabouts, please call 911.

Update 11/28/19 at 4:50 PM:
The victim has died at the hospital; this is now being investigated as a homicide. Her identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

The K9 track has concluded. There have been no arrests at this time.

At 3:14 PM on November 28, 2019, officers responded to an apartment complex on the 200-block of McCarrey Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers located an adult female inside one of the apartments with a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There have been no arrests and there is no suspect information to release at this time. That being said, this is believed to be an isolated targeted event.

There will be a heavy police presence in the area while the scene is processed and a K9 track is conducted. Anyone with information regarding this incident, who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to call dispatch at 311.
