Homicide; 2800-block of Debarr Road

UPDATE – Anchorage Police have arrested and charged 34-year-old Benjamin Wilkins with Murder 1, Kidnapping, Sexual Assault 1, Sexual Assault 2, Tampering with Evidence, DUI, and Driving While License Suspended/Revoked. He was booked into the Anchorage Jail.

Benjamin Wilkins was the driver of a Subaru that crashed into a pole on Debarr Road late last night.  The only other occupant of the vehicle was a deceased female, 30-year-old Jacqueline Goodwin.  It was clear she had died from injuries suffered prior to the crash. 

This investigation is still ongoing.  Police have conducted several interviews and are in the process of serving search warrants on different locations. Police are not currently looking for anyone else related to this crime.

 

ORIGINAL RELEASE - Anchorage Police responded to a collision that occurred at about 11:40 PM last night, June 27, 2016, at the 2800 block of Debarr Road near Alaska Regional Hospital.  Upon arrival, officers found that a sedan had left the roadway and struck a pole causing the pole to collapse across Debarr Road.  The male driver was taken into custody on suspicions of impaired driving; his passenger was found to be deceased.  The medical examiner’s office took custody of the deceased and will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.  The driver is currently being questioned at APD Headquarters.  Names are being withheld pending charges against the driver and next of kin notification for the deceased.

Debarr Road was closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic for several hours while officials responded to the downed power lines.
