Homicide; 500-block E 74th Avenue

Update on 5/21/15:

APD detectives have processed the crime scene, collected evidence, and have interviewed numerous family and friends.  The State Medical Examiner’s Office has conducted autopsies on the bodies to determine the manner and cause of death.

While the investigation is still on going, with lab results pending, the evidence supports the theory that this was a contained scene and that this was a murder/suicide.   All indications are that 24-year-old Curtis Young III shot and killed his 27-year-old girlfriend and their children (4 years old and 17 months old) before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.

This investigation is still open.  If the facts surrounding this case change, an update will be released.

Original:

On May 13, 2015, at about 12:20 PM, Anchorage Police received a phone call from a citizen stating that a man had just found his daughter, her boyfriend, and their two children dead inside their home located at the 500 block of E. 74th Avenue.

The man told police that he became concerned when the children’s father failed to show up at his home to drop the children off in the morning, as this was his routine. The man tried to call his daughter but received no answer.  When he went to the home, the doors were locked, so he entered through a window and discovered the family dead from gunshot wounds.  The State Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy on each of the deceased to confirm cause/manner of death.

At this point in the investigation, detectives believe this was an isolated domestic violence-related incident and they are not looking for a suspect.  This case is currently under investigation; more information will be released as it becomes available.
