Homicide; 5600-block Alora Loop

Update:
Detectives have determined this to be a homicide investigation.

The suspect, Diques Esaw (18 years old), turned himself in last night at the Anchorage Jail. He faces charges of Manslaughter and Criminally Negligent Homicide.


Update 9/1/19 1:30 p.m.:
The victim has been identified as Lamore Lapitre (19 years old). Next of kin procedures have been completed.

Detectives believe he died as a result of the gunshot wound. Medical examiner will determine exact cause of death.

Original 8/30/19 9:35 p.m.:
On 8/30/19 around 7:40 p.m., Dispatch received a report of a person with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the 5600 block of Alora Loop.

When officers with the Patrol Division arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the upper body inside a residence. Officers administered life saving measures until our partners at the Anchorage Fire Department arrived. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later. Several people have been detained for questioning.

While the cause of death is still under investigation, his death is suspicious in nature. APD Homicide Detectives and the Crime Scene Team have responded to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.

Detectives are not looking for any additional people at this time.
