Homicide; 800-block E 45th Avenue

Update on 2/16/15:

Anchorage police have arrested a man believed to be involved in a deadly shooting that occurred early yesterday morning.

Terrance Jermaine Beasley, age 33, along with acquaintance Sentwali Howard, age 30, entered the Holiday convenience store, located at Old Seward Highway and Tudor Road, at about 3:00 AM February 15, 2015.

The two began to argue inside the store over one of them being disrespectful to the other. A short time later the two left the store on foot, southbound. According to witnesses, after crossing Tudor Road, Beasley produced a handgun, fired several rounds, and then fled the scene.  Officers found Howard on the ground on the west side of 822 E. 45th Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest area. Howard was transported to a nearby hospital where he died at about 6:00 AM.

A police K9 track led officers to the Parkwood Inn where they made contacted Terrance Beasley as he was leaving one of the apartments headed toward a vehicle.  All the occupants were asked to come out of the apartment, however, one individual remained inside. That led to a brief standoff with APD SWAT which ended peacefully after verbal negotiations.

Following lengthy interviews with multiple people, Terrance Jermaine Beasley was charged late last night with murder in the 2nd degree and misconduct involving weapons in the 3rd degree (felon in possession of a firearm). He was remanded to the Anchorage Jail where he is expected to be arraigned today.

Update on 2/15/15:

APD officers were able to successfully negotiate an individual out of a Parkwood Inn apartment where SWAT officers were preparing to enter.  That person is currently being questioned at APD headquarters.  No charges have been filed at this time.  SWAT officers and negotiators have left the area, but Crime Scene Investigators remain and continue to process the scene.

Anchorage police are investigating a homicide that was reported at 3:06 AM this morning near mid-town.  According to witnesses, two men entered the Holiday convenience store located at 821 E. 45th Court, near Old Seward Highway and Tudor Road. The two men got into a verbal disagreement inside the store and then walked out of the store where, moments later, multiple shots were fired.  One of the men was struck by gunfire and was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6:00 AM.

Anchorage police responded to the scene and a K-9 track was initiated which led officers to the Parkwood Inn Apartments located at the 4400 block of Juneau Street.  Members of the SWAT team have responded in reference to the occupants still inside the apartment.  Neighboring residents should note that if negotiations fail, the SWAT team may have use less lethal tactics resulting in loud noises and/or gas deployment.

Detectives are currently interviewing several people at APD headquarters regarding this incident. The APD Crime Scene Team is gathering evidence and documenting the scene from the point of the shooting to the apartment complex, an area that spans several blocks.

At this time, the victim has only been identified as a male.  Next of kin has not been notified.
