Homicide; Baxter Road/E Northern Lights Boulevard
UPDATE ON 10/24/18:
On October 24, 2018, an Anchorage Grand Jury indicted Corey Hoppe with Manslaughter in connection with the death of an adult female on October 13, 2018. Hoppe was previously arrested and charged with Failure to Render Aid and he has remained in jail since that time.
This case is now being treated as a homicide.
UPDATE ON 10/14/18:
Through the investigative process, detectives were able to determine that 27-year-old Corey S. Hoppe may be the suspect driver. Detectives put out a locate for both Hoppe and his Chevy Suburban to patrol officers. At approximately 1:00 AM a patrol sergeant saw the Chevy at Elmore and Dowling. A traffic stop was conducted and Hoppe was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to APD for questioning.
Initial indications are that Hoppe and the victim were roommates. They were in the Suburban together when some type of disagreement occurred between the two of them. After the victim exited the passenger side of the Chevy at the corner of Baxter and Northern Lights, Hoppe made a right hand turn running over the victim in the process.
Hoppe was incarcerated at the Anchorage Jail on the charge of Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident. This case is still under investigation.
UPDATE on 10/13/18 AT 11:25 PM:
The victim of the hit and run collision died at the hospital; this case is now a death investigation.
No further details are being released at this time. The victim's identity will be not be released by APD due to this being a DV Crime.
ORIGINAL on 10/13/18:
At 4:58 PM on Saturday, October 13, 2018, Anchorage Police responded to the intersection of Northern Lights Boulevard and Baxter Road in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision. Initial indications are that the victim adult male was originally in the vehicle with the suspect. The victim exited the vehicle and then was subsequently run over by the suspect who then drove away from the scene without rendering aid.
Officers located the adult male victim in the crosswalk on the north side of the intersection. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. At this time it is unknown if the victim got out of the vehicle under his own power or if he was forced out. Whether or not the suspect intentionally ran over the victim is still under investigation.
While there were several witnesses, the descriptions given of both the suspect driver and vehicle vary significantly. Northbound Baxter at Northern Lights is still closed but is expected to be re-opened shortly.
