Homicide; Benson Boulevard/A Street
Update 4/4/19:
At 12:43 AM on Monday, April 1, 2019, the driver of a car pulled into the strip mall parking lot at 341 E Benson Boulevard (directly to the East of Barnes and Noble) and stopped to talk to a pedestrian before driving away. Homicide detectives are asking for the driver of that vehicle to come forward as they believe he/she may have witnessed events regarding the homicide of Tony Susook which took place nearby.

Update 4/3/19:
The victim has been identified as Tony Susook (27 years old). Next of kin procedures have been completed.
Update 4/1/19 8:38 a.m.:
Detectives have determined this to be a homicide investigation and have arrested Martin Kignak (25 years old). He was transported to jail after questioning and faces multiple charges of Murder 2.
The preliminary investigation found that the suspect was spotted by officers on routine patrol in the area assaulting the victim. He was taken into custody and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim is not being released at this time pending next of kin procedures.

Benson Boulevard has reopened.
Original 4/1/19:
Benson Boulevard is closed between A Street and Denali Street for a suspicious death investigation. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Officers with the Patrol Division discovered the body of an adult male at the intersection of Benson Boulevard and A Street. The body was lying on the road. The death appears to be suspicious. The Crime Scene Team will be responding to begin investigating the scene. Officers have one person in custody for questioning and are not looking for anyone else at this time.
Anyone with information about this investigation, including surveillance video, should call Dispatch at 311.
