Homicide; E 12th Avenue and Hyder Street

Update on 9/23/15:

Anchorage police are asking the public for help in identifying a person of interest regarding the fatal shooting of Abraham Midgett III this Spring.

On Friday, March 20, 2015, police responded to a report of gunfire near 12th and Hyder St. just before 4:00 a.m. An adult male, later identified as 54-year-old Abraham Midgett III, was found unconscious in the parking lot of Alexander’s Body Shop. It appeared that Abraham was a victim of gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Evidence gathered from the scene indicates that the male shown in the video and stills may have information that can assist in the investigation of the shooting and police are trying to identify and locate the person of interest. The male appears to be wearing a dark baseball cap with white stitching, a dark oversized winter jacket, dark pants, and dark shoes.

The victim of last Friday’s homicide has been identified as 54-year-old Abraham Midgett III. His next-of-kin have been notified. This is an ongoing investigation; no arrests or charges have been made at this time.

Anchorage police are investigating a homicide in Fairview that occurred just before 4:00 a.m. this morning. APD Dispatch received a call reporting gunfire heard near 12th Avenue and Hyder Street. Police responded to the area and found a male who was unconscious in the parking lot of Alexander’s Body Shop. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Police have identified the victim; the identity will be released once next of kin have been notified.

So far, evidence in the case indicates the death is the result of a homicide. No suspect has been taken into custody. APD’s Crime Scene Team is at the site further investigating the incident.
