Homicide; East of Karluk Street and E 5th Avenue

Police have made positive identifications of the deceased shooting victims from Monday, March 10, 2014, and next-of-kin have been notified. The deceased shooting victims have been identified as 47-year-old Mae Melovidov (originally from Saint Paul Island, Alaska) and 55-year-old Robert Workman (originally from Shageluk, Alaska). Police do believe the deceased victims have been residing in Anchorage for some time. Police continue to investigate the shooting and ask anyone with information to call Police Dispatch at 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.

Update on 3/11/14:

Anchorage police continue to investigate the shooting of three victims in a tent east of Karluk and 5th Avenue on Monday evening. An autopsy is being conducted today of the two victims who were pronounced dead after the shooting. Police hope to make positive identifications of the victims once the autopsies are completed. One male victim was pronounced dead at the scene; a female victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased a few hours after the shooting. Another male victim was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries and is still being treated. No one has been taken into custody.

The second shooting victim, who was originally transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, has died. Police are still searching for the suspect. An original description of the suspect was a male, unknown race, approximately 5'8", medium build, wearing a black jacket with vertical stripes on the back last seen heading westbound on foot toward 6th Avenue/Karluk St. A suspect description recently provided by the surviving victim describes the shooter as taller than 6', with black or brown shoulder length hair.

Anchorage Police are responding to a shooting which occurred outside just before 6:00 pm east of Karluk and 5th Avenue. Police discovered three shooting victims; one was pronounced dead at the scene, one was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and the third victim was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. The victims were shot inside of a tent in a wooded area just past a business parking lot on 5th Avenue. Police are searching for the shooting suspect. K9, SWAT, detectives and officers are on-scene investigating. More details will be released as they come available.
