Update at 4:30 PM on 7/8/22:

From the Attorney General’s Office:

Today, an Anchorage grand jury returned an indictment charging 19-year-old Teathloch J. Chan with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, one count of manslaughter, one count of tampering with physical evidence, and two counts of third-degree assault for the June 28, 2022, murder of Daniel Ackerman and assaults of Judith Ackerman and Jacob Askren.

 These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

 Chan is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections. His bail is set at $250,000 cash performance plus conditions of release, including a court approved third-party custodian and house arrest. He faces up to 99 years for the murder charges, 20 years for the manslaughter charge, and 5 years for the evidence tampering and assault charges. Chan is scheduled to be arraigned before the Anchorage Superior Court on July 12, 2022.

Update at 12:30 PM on 7/1/22:

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Daniel Ackerman.

Next of kin notification procedures have been completed.

Update at 8:58 AM on 06/28/22:
Officers responded to Taku Lake Campbell Park at 100 E 76th Avenue regarding shots fired. Initial indications are that two groups of people were at the lake. Some type of interaction occurred between some of the individuals in the groups when 19-year-old Teathloch Chan physically assaulted one of the adult males from the other group. The assault victim and Adult Male #2 pursued Chan who walked into the nearby parking lot. Chan produced a gun and fatally shot Male #2. Immediately afterwards Chan fled the area on foot. He was subsequently located hiding in a dumpster on King Arthur Court by an APD K9.

Chan was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. Afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail for Murder I.

There is no indication the two groups knew one another prior to the shooting. The victim’s name will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

At 11:19 PM on June 28, 2022, officers assigned to Swing Shift Patrol responded to 100 E 76th Avenue in reference to reports of shots fired.

 When officers and medics with AFD arrived they found a an adult male victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was declared deceased at the scene.

 The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

 The Crime Scene Team has responded to process the scene. E 76th Avenue at King Street is closed. Please avoid the area and follow the officers’ instructions if you need to be in the vicinity.

 One suspect was taken into custody and is being questioned by detectives with the Anchorage Police Department. While the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, it appears this was an isolated event.
