Homicide Investigation; 300-Block Klevin St

Update on 7/13/22:

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Joshua Austin.  Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Update on 7/12/22:
20-year-old Justin R. Austin was remanded at the Anchorage Jail for his role in last night’s homicide.  He was charged with Tampering with Evidence, Assault III, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon II. 
 
A second individual, the person responsible for the fatal shooting, has been interviewed by detectives.  Afterwards he was released, and no charges have been filed.  The investigation is ongoing; no further details are available at present time.

Update on 7/11/22 at 10:05 PM:
The victim has died from their injuries. This is now being investigated as a homicide. 

The Crime Scene Team is responding to process the scene. Klevin St remains closed between 3rd and 4th Ave. Please avoid the area and follow the officers’ instructions if you need to be in the vicinity.

On July 11, 2022, at 8:22 PM police responded to the 300-block of Klevin St in reference to a shooting. One male adult victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Klevin St is closed between 3rd Avenue and 4th Avenue while officers process the scene. Please use alternate routes and avoid the area. If you need to be in the area, please follow officer instructions. While the circumstances and motive for the shooting are still under investigation, officers believe this is an isolated incident and they believe they have contacted everyone involved.
