Anchorage District Attorney Brittany Dunlop announced today that an Anchorage Grand Jury indicted Antony Leone Socarras on one count of murder in the first degree and two counts of murder in the second degree, for the domestic violence homicide of Angela Telles.

The homicide occurred on the morning of Sept. 11, 2022 at an apartment near Jewel Lake. Socarras was arrested the same day, after a stand-off with police. He is currently being held on a $500,000 cash performance bond and $500,000 cash appearance bond, with house arrest and a third-party custodian required. Socarras will be arraigned in Anchorage Superior Court on Sept. 22, 2022.

If convicted at trial, Socarras faces a sentence of up to 99 years imprisonment, a fine of $500,000, or both. The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Socarras is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Update at 7:30 PM:
33-year-old Antony L. Socarras has been remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Murder I and two counts of Murder II.
 
Socarras is the person who originally called APD Dispatch at 8:11 AM this morning stating he was armed and wanted to harm himself.  Through the conversation, Dispatch was able to ascertain Socarras’ name and home address.  Officers responded to the residence on the 8100-block of Bearberry Street.  They confirmed Socarras was not there but they located an adult female inside who was deceased from a gunshot wound.  
 
Through the investigation, Socarras was identified as the homicide suspect and it was determined that he was on foot near 78th and Jewel Lake.  Patrol officers responded, formed a perimeter, and held the area while SWAT responded to the scene.  Once SWAT located Socarras hiding in a ditch, Socarras refused to follow commands which led SWAT to utilize less lethal tactics to affect the arrest.  Those tactics included the deployment of chemical agents, less lethal impact munitions, and K9 (a Taser was not deployed as previously reported).  Socarras did have a handgun in his possession when he was located by SWAT.
 
The victim and suspect lived together; APD will not release her name due to this being a domestic violence-related crime.

Update at 12:00 PM:
At 8:11 AM on Sunday, September 11, 2022, Anchorage Police Dispatch received a call from an adult male who was making statements suggesting that he wanted to harm himself.  As part of the response to that phone call, officers went to the 8100-block of Bearberry Street where they located a deceased adult female.  Her death is being investigated as a homicide and the Crime Scene Team will be responding to process the scene. 
 
The male taken into custody by SWAT is also the suspect in the homicide.  SWAT located the male hiding in a ditch near 78th Avenue and Jewel Lake.  After multiple unsuccessful attempts to gain compliance, SWAT deployed chemical agents.  The suspect refused to follow commands at which time a Taser was deployed.  The suspect remained non-compliant; K9 Midas was released.  Midas make contact with the suspect which allowed SWAT to take the suspect into custody.
 
The suspect will be transported to the hospital for medical treatment of the dog bite.  Afterwards he will be questioned by detectives at the Anchorage Police Department.

Update at 11:15 AM:
SWAT has taken the suspect into custody.  The police presence will clear from the area in a short while; thank you for your cooperation.

Update at 9:45 AM:
Anchorage Police are looking for the suspect in this morning’s disturbance call.
 
APD Special Operations has responded to the scene. That work unit includes the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and the Tactical Support Unit (TSU). Depending on the actions of the suspect, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools (to include the drone) to apprehend him. This could also involve the deploying of chemical agents; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed.
 
Jewel Lake is closed between 75th and 82nd Avenues. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area to include evacuation of your home if necessary. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice.
 
We ask both the public and the media to refrain from posting/publishing photos and/or video of the scene until the situation is over. Showing tactical positions and movements in these types of situations can put the public and officers’ safety at risk.

Original Release at 8:50 AM:
Anchorage Police have responded to reports of a disturbance with a weapon.  There is currently a large police presence near 79th and Jewel Lake; that area has been closed down to traffic.  Traffic is being diverted at 80thand Jewel Lake and at Strawberry and Jewel Lake.  
 
Please avoid the area while police work the scene; a drone may be used in the investigation.
