Homicide; Trophy Lounge at 8801 Jewel Lake Road

Update on 6/24/21 at 5PM:
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Kevin Kirlin. Next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Update--05:18PM--06/23/21:
Initial indications are that 23-year-old Tyler John Phillips met with an adult male acquaintance for the purpose of completing a drug transaction in the parking lot of the Trophy Lounge. An altercation broke out between the two at which time Phillips fatally struck the victim with a sharp object. The suspect fled from the scene in a vehicle.

Through the investigation, Phillips was determined to be the suspect. He was located at a residence and taken into custody at 10:38 AM. After being interviewed by homicide detectives at the Anchorage Police Department, Phillips was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Murder I and two counts of Murder II.

The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

Officers assigned to day shift Patrol, Traffic, and the School Resource Unit were all involved in today’s investigation.

At 7:32 AM on June 23, 2021, Anchorage Police responded to the parking lot of the Trophy Lounge located at 8801 Jewel Lake Road in reference to an adult male who appeared to need medical assistance. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in the parking lot who was deceased due to trauma to the upper body.

The parking lot is closed down and will remain so while the Crime Scene Team processes the area. There is no suspect information to release at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident, to include surveillance footage, is asked to call Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1).
