At 8:03 AM on August 18, 2024, a red 2011 Kia was reported as stolen to APD.  The vehicle had been parked in front of a residence on the 7900-block of Mayfair Drive when it was taken.

At 3:15 PM on August 26, 2024, a day shift patrol officer saw the stolen vehicle parked in a business parking lot at 5437 E Northern Lights Boulevard.  The two occupants appeared to be passed out inside the running vehicle.  Once additional units arrived at the scene, the stolen vehicle was blocked in by patrol cars.  The two men inside the Kia woke up when an officer activated a police vehicle’s siren.  The passenger, later identified as 46-year-old Jacob C. Sheets, aggressively pushed the driver, 42-year-old Jason T. Postishek, out of the car.  Sheets got into the driver’s seat and began ramming the police cars.  Multiple commands were given and pepper ball was deployed inside the Kia.  Sheets exited the car and fled on foot.  He was caught quickly and taken into custody.  Sheets was medically evaluated for the chemical exposure prior to being transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

When Jason Postishek was pushed out of the vehicle by Jacob Sheets, officers grabbed hold of Postishek and pulled him to safety behind a patrol vehicle so that he would not get hit while Sheets was trying to ram his way out of the vehicle block.  While interacting with Postishek, officers noticed signs of impairment.  The decision was made to charge him with Driving under the Influence (of suspected drugs).

Postishek was transported to the jail for further processing.  His blood was drawn once a search warrant was obtained.  Afterwards he was driven to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

Jacob Sheets was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on his four existing warrants.  He was additionally charged with Vehicle Theft I, two counts of Resisting, Theft II, and Reckless Endangerment.

Jason Postishek was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on his one existing warrant.  He was additionally charged with DUI, Vehicle Theft I, and Theft II.

When the Kia had been originally reported as stolen, the owner stated the vehicle had been locked and no keys were inside.  When the Kia was recovered by police, they saw the Kia’s ignition had been damaged.
