K9 Hank apprehended Matthew Arrow during warrant service
At 8:25 PM on January 29, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to reports of a vehicle in the ditch on Northern Lights Boulevard near Bragaw Street. Upon arrival the first responding officer contacted three individuals who were digging the vehicle out. The officer returned to his patrol car to run a computer check on the names and subsequently discovered that one of them, 34-year-old Matthew P. Arrow, had a felony probation violation warrant for the original charges of Assault III and Operating under the Influence. Arrow was also an absconder from probation.
As the officer was running the checks and speaking to one of the other people involved, Arrow walked into the nearby wooded area. Backup units responded, a perimeter was set up, and a K9 track was conducted. K9 Hank located Arrow attempting to conceal himself under the pedestrian bridge. Multiple commands were given to Arrow which went ignored. K9 Hank was released; K9 Hank contacted Arrow on his back. The apprehension allowed officers to take Arrow into custody without further incident.
Matthew Arrow was transported to a hospital for treatment of the bite; afterwards he was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his outstanding warrant. He was additionally charged with Resisting. Throughout the investigation, Arrow displayed signs consistent with someone who is under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.
