Keen Smith and Jonathan Joseph Arrested on Multiple Charges in Robbery Investigation
On January 11, 2024, mid-shift patrol and the K9 unit responded to the area of 10th Ave. and Hyder St. for a report of an adult male victim who had been assaulted, robbed, and whose vehicle was stolen.
Officers located the stolen vehicle in a parking lot at 3rd Ave. and A Street. When officers arrived to contact the vehicle, multiple people started to exit the vehicle, including 33-year-old Jonathan Joseph, who matched the description of a suspect. Joseph exited the vehicle and began to run across the intersection of 3rd Ave./ A St away from officers and the scene. K9 warnings were given to Joseph, but he ignored them and continued to run. K9 Kiska was released and apprehended Joseph by biting him on his right arm. Joseph was in possession of the victim’s stolen property. Officers were able to take Joseph into custody without further incident. Joseph was transported to a hospital for treatment of the K9 bite. Jonathan Joseph was remanded to the Anchorage Jail for two counts of Theft 2.
Detectives determined that 32-year-old Keen Smith, who was also in the vehicle at the time it was recovered, was the primary suspect. He was taken into custody without incident and remanded at the Anchorage Jail for Robbery 1, assault 2, vehicle theft 1, theft 2, and assault 4.
