A federal grand jury in Alaska returned an indictment charging an Anchorage man with being a felon in possession of firearms and for the sale of stolen firearms. According to court documents, Max Reder, 37, knowingly sold at least nine stolen firearms in October 2020. He also possessed at least 34 firearms knowing he had two prior convictions for burglary in the second degree, a felony, in the State of Alaska. As someone previously convicted of a felony offense, Reder is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. The defendant is scheduled for his initial court appearance on Wednesday, August 24th before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kyle F. Reardon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on each count. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker of the District of Alaska made the announcement. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Anchorage Police Department are investigating the case.
