Mikyung Oh charged in DUI investigation after causing two separate crashes

At 6:21 PM on July 13, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the intersection of W International Airport Road and Spenard Road regarding a multi-vehicle collision wherein one of the involved drivers appeared to be intoxicated.

Upon arrival officers contacted 51-year-old Mikyung Oh who was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Jeep.  Officers immediately noticed signs of intoxication while they were interacting with Mikyung.  Officers asked Mikyung to step out of her vehicle and participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).  Due to Mikyung’s level of intoxication, the officers had to stop the tests for Mikyung’s safety as they were concerned she was going to fall.  The decision was made to charge Mikyung with Driving under the Influence.  She was detained and transported to the Anchorage Jail for further processing.  Mikyung provided a breath sample that showed her breath alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.

Initial indications are that Mikyung was travelling westbound on International Airport Road, approaching the traffic light at Jewel Lake, when she rear-ended a Volkswagen which was pushed into the back of a Toyota.  No one was injured in any of the vehicles involved in that crash.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that approximately 30 minutes earlier, Mikyung had been involved in a hit-and-run crash at Jewel Lake Road and 63rdAvenue.  Initial indications are that Mikyung was travelling southbound on Jewel Lake when she attempted a U-turn at 63rd.  Part way through the turn Mikyung stopped, quickly backed up, and hit a Mercedes that was stopped at a stop sign on Thurman Drive.  The collision caused significant front-end damage to the Mercedes.  Mikyung drove away without making contact with the Mercedes’ driver.  No one was injured in that collision.

Mikung Oh was remanded at Hiland Correctional on the charges of Driving Under the Influence, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and three counts of Criminal Mischief III.
