Miracle Crichton and Timothy Edwards Charged in Stolen Vehicle Investigations

At 10:12 AM on May 20, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a report of a vehicle abandoned in the roadway.  Through the subsequent investigation it was determined that two vehicles had been stolen from a business on the 200-block of E International Airport Road.  One was a white 2009 Chevy Colorado pickup and the second was a blue 2005 Chevy Colorado pickup.

The white vehicle was found empty in the intersection of Penland Parkway and Airport Heights Drive; it was blocking the eastbound turn lane.  The truck was missing its passenger side window and passenger side door handle.  After contacting the vehicle’s owner, the pickup was impounded for safekeeping.

Officers learned that both stolen trucks had been driven to a residence in the Penland Parkway Trailer Park.  Police responded to that home and contacted the people inside.  Officers knew that at least one occupant was refusing to exit.  After giving multiple commands and warnings that went unheeded, officers obtained a search warrant.  Police breached the front door; K9 was present and K9 warnings were issued.  31-year-old Sebastian Tautalatasi became compliant and was taken into custody without further incident.  Also found inside was 29-year-old Kevin G. Peterson II.  Tautalatasi, Peterson, and 23-year-old Miracle F. Crichton (who had been compliant with officers and exited the home when asked to) were transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.  While the interviews were happening, other officers searched the trailer home pursuant to the search warrant.

Once the interviews were completed, Sebastian Tautalatasi was remanded on two existing warrants (one felony and one misdemeanor).  He was additionally charged with Resisting.  Kevin Peterson II was remanded on his existing misdemeanor warrant and he was also charged with Resisting.  No one was charged with vehicle theft.

Two days later, at 11:38 AM on May 22, 2023, Police Dispatch was notified that a citizen found a truck abandoned in the trees on the 300-block of W Potter Road.  A license plate check confirmed the truck was the 2005 blue pickup that had been reported as stolen two days prior from the International Airport Road location.  Upon arrival officers saw that the vehicle’s hood was ajar, the passenger side window was partially down, the exterior passenger side door handle had been removed, interior mechanisms had been tampered with, and some of the body had been spray painted. The vehicle’s owner was contacted; a tow company retrieved the truck on their behalf.

At 6:59 PM on August 13, 2023, a green 1997 Subaru Legacy was reported as stolen to APD.  The parked and locked vehicle was taken from outside a residence on the 2600-block of Carroll Place.

At 7:58 AM on August 14, 2023, a 2012 white Dodge Ram utility truck was reported as stolen to APD.  The vehicle had been parked at a business on the 300-block of W Chipperfield Drive when it was taken.  The truck was locked but an ignition key had been left inside.  The exterior door handle was broken off by the suspect(s) and left behind.

Approximately two hours later, at 9:55 AM, Anchorage Police received a tip that the Dodge was parked at a residence in the Penland Parkway Trailer Park (the trailer number given was the same as the trailer home involved in the May stolen vehicle investigations).   Officers were dispatched to the location; they were told the stolen Dodge was in front of the residence and being unloaded.  Prior to arrival, officers were notified the Dodge was now mobile.  One of the responding officers saw the Dodge being driven out of the park onto westbound Debarr.  After turning onto 15th Avenue from Airport Heights, the driver abandoned the truck at E 15th Avenue and Birchwood Street and fled on foot.  Officers gave chase and caught him shortly thereafter.  The driver was identified as 26-year-old Timothy W. Edwards.

While some officers were interacting with Edwards, other officers continued to the residence in the Penland Trailer Park.  Parked in the driveway was the Subaru that had been reported as stolen the day before.  Officers contacted Miracle Crichton (the same person from the May investigation) who was outside.  Crichton was detained and driven to the Anchorage Police Department to be interviewed by detectives.  Edwards had also been transported for questioning.  Afterwards both Timothy Edwards and Miracle Crichton were remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Vehicle Theft I and Theft I for the theft of the Dodge.  During the interview, it was determined Edwards was responsible for stealing the white Chevy Colorado pickup in May, therefore he was charged with an additional count of Vehicle Theft I for that incident.

No one has been charged for the theft of the blue Chevy Colorado or the green Subaru Legacy.

While Crichton and Edwards were being questioned, officers had secured the trailer home while waiting for a warrant to be granted so the inside of the trailer could be searched.  Officers were standing outside when 23-year-old Saimone P. C. Mafi walked up with the intention of entering the home.  The officers stopped him; Mafi fled on foot and officers gave chase.  Mafi was caught in the parking lot of the Northway Mall.  He was ultimately remanded at the Anchorage Jail for Obstruct Investigation by Fleeing and two counts of Violate Conditions of Release.
