OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING: 4000 BLOCK OF PIPER ST & E TUDOR ROAD

On February 4, 2025, at approximately 1:17 p.m., multiple calls were made to APD Dispatch regarding a man waving a firearm near Tudor Road and Piper Street. Callers described the individual as an adult male wearing a black hoodie and black pants, carrying a black pistol. Reports indicated the man had pointed the gun at a school bus while attempting to stop it and was also walking in the middle of the street.

As officers arrived, the suspect continued walking westbound toward Folker Street. Commands were given for him to drop the weapon and put his hands up. Despite repeated verbal instructions, the suspect reached into his waistband and grabbed the firearm. Video footage shows muzzle smoke appearing as the weapon was raised. At that point, an officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect, who then fell to the ground. Officers immediately attempted life-saving measures until medics arrived.

The Homicide Unit and Major Crime Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Witnesses were interviewed, video footage was reviewed, and evidence was collected. The suspect was identified as 33 year-old Francis Rochon. Next of kin was notified by Nome Police Department.

This case remains under investigation.
