Shooting Investigation; 4300-block Thompson Avenue
Update at 3:40 PM:
22-year-old Claymonte R. Otero has been remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Assault I, Assault III, and Tampering with Evidence in connection with this morning’s shooting.
As officers were conducting interviews at the scene, they contacted 42-year-old Benito K. Carter SR who had a felony warrant for the charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon III and Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV. He was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on that warrant (APD Case 22-20380).
This investigation is ongoing. No further details are available for release.
Update at 9:55 AM:
While there are still officers at the scene, many have cleared from the area.
The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the upper body. How that wound was obtained is still under investigation. No shots were fired by police.
Neither the male nor female’s injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The suspect has been taken into custody. There will still be a large police presence while officers clear the building the suspect was in.

At 7:58 AM on June 23, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to the 4300-block of Thompson Avenue regarding citizens hearing multiple shots being fired. Upon arrival officers did locate one adult female with a gunshot wound to the lower body. She has been transported to a hospital; the extent of her injuries is unknown.
There is a large police presence in the area. Thompson Avenue between N Bunn Street and N Hoyt Street is closed; please use another route and follow the directions of officers if you do need to be in the vicinity.
No arrests have been made.
