Update at 4:45 PM:

Anchorage Police are investigating a shooting that took place on the 500-block of N Lane Street.  Initial indications are that the adult male suspect fired at the adult male victim outside, striking the victim at least once.  The victim fled on foot with the suspect chasing after him.  The victim entered an apartment belonging to people who appear to be unknown to him.  The suspect fired at least one shot from outside the apartment.  The bullet travelled inside the apartment and struck a small child inside.

Both victims have been transported to a hospital for treatment; the severity of their injuries is currently unknown.

The suspect fled from the scene and has not yet been apprehended; there is no suspect description available for release as of yet.  The suspect search is still underway.  Anyone with information regarding this crime, to include surveillance footage of the area, is asked to call APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-789-8900 (press “0”).

Update at 4:10 PM:

APD Special Operations has responded to the scene to assist in the search for the shooting suspect(s); therefore, SWAT members will be seen in several areas throughout the neighborhood. That work unit includes the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT), the Tactical Support Unit (TSU), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and/or the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT). Depending on the actions of the suspect, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools (to include the drone) to apprehend him. This could also involve the deploying of chemical agents; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed.

We ask both the public and the media to refrain from posting/publishing photos and/or video of the scene until the situation is over. Showing tactical positions and movements in these types of situations can put the public and officers’ safety at risk.

At 2:53 PM on August 14, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to reports of a shooting on the 500-block of N Lane Street.  There is a very large police presence at the scene.  Please avoid the area if you can and follow the instructions of officers if you do need to be in the vicinity. 

The investigation may include the use of the drone.
