Original 08/03/23:

At 11:42 AM on August 3, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to reports of a shooting.  The investigation is still in its early stages and confirmed details are limited.

Initial indications are that Adult Male #1 and an adult female were with their juvenile children at Fred Meyer located at 2286 Abbott Road.  Some type of altercation occurred outside the store between the two parents and Adult Male #2 who was unknown to the family.  During the disturbance, at least two shots were fired.  Male #2, and one of the couple’s juvenile children, were each struck one time in the upper body.  The person or persons responsible for firing the shots is still being determined.

The parents drove away with the children.  Male #1 dropped off the injured child and the adult female at a hospital, and then left with the other juveniles who were not injured. Responding officers located the SUV being driven near the hospital, conducted a traffic stop, and took Male #1 into custody without incident.  Male #1 has been transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning.

Male #2 was transported to a hospital by AFD medics for treatment.  The injuries of both victims are currently considered to be non-life-threatening.  Police believe they have contacted everyone involved.

Police are grateful to all the citizen witnesses who called police and stayed at the scene to provide statements.
