SHOOTING INVESTIGATION at the 200-block of W 40th Avenue
Update:
Through the investigation it was determined that 31-year-old Joshua F. Carpenter was responsible for the shooting. Detectives obtained a felony arrest warrant for the charges of Assault in the First Degree and Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Second Degree.
On February 20, 2024, officers assigned to the Investigative Support Unit (ISU) responded to Cuddy Family Midtown Park located at 201 W 40th Avenue. ISU had received information that Carpenter was inside a red Ford van inside the park. ISU located the van and conducted a felony traffic stop. Officers gave several commands which Carpenter eventually complied with. Carpenter exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident.
Joshua Carpenter was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the felony warrant.

At 10:08pm on February 8, 2024, APD officers responded to the 200-block of W 40th Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the lower body. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Police are currently following up on leads and there is no suspect information to release at this time. The motive for the shooting, and any relationship between the parties involved, is under investigation.
