Homicide Investigation: E 6th Avenue and San Juan Circle

UPDATE 7:20 PM

On Oct. 15, 2024, at 6:52 AM, the Anchorage Police responded to a report of an adult male shooting a firearm in the parking lot of the 5700-block of Rocky Mountain Court.

Upon arrival, officers found another adult male near 6th and Boniface by San Juan Circle with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body.

The Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) medics responded to the scene and provided life-saving measures; however, the victim was declared deceased at the scene. The victim’s identity will be released once next-of-kin notification procedures have been completed.

It was determined that both incidents were connected, and police received reports from witnesses that a person of interest in connection to the homicide was inside an apartment complex near the 5700-block of Rocky Mountain Court.

Patrol officers created a perimeter around the location, and at around 11:00 AM, APD Special Operations responded to the scene.

APD was unable to locate the person of interest during the operation and detectives are following up on leads.

All roads are now open.

Both incidents are connected, and the APD Special Operations Unit is currently operating near Rocky Mountain Court searching for a person of interest believed to be connected to the homicide of the gunshot victim.

E 6th Avenue between Boniface Parkway and Newell Street is closed. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area to include evacuation of your home if necessary.

If you do not need to be in the vicinity, avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice.

UPDATE AT 11:00 AM:

APD Special Operations has responded to the scene. That work unit includes the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT), the Technical Support Unit (TSU), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and/or the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT). Depending on the actions of the suspect, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools (to include the drone) to apprehend him. This could also involve the deploying of chemical agents; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed.

E 6th Avenue between Boniface Parkway and Newell Street is closed. Please follow officers’ instructions if you are in the area to include evacuation of your home if necessary. If you do not need to be in the vicinity, avoid it and seek alternative routes until further notice.

UPDATE 9:40 AM:

At 6:52 AM on Oct. 15, 2024, Anchorage Police responded to the 5700-block of Rocky Mountain Court for reports of an adult male shooting a firearm in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they located another adult male in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) medics responded and attempted life saving measures, but ultimately declared the victim deceased at the scene.

Police continue to investigate this event.  E 6th Avenue from Boniface Parkway to Newell Street is closed while they investigate. If anyone has additional information, please call APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (option #0).
