Shooting Investigation near E 43rd Av/Piper St – witnesses being sought

Update on 3/7/23:

Through the investigation, detectives determined that 38-year-old Nicholas C. Brown was the shooter.   On February 19th a felony warrant for Assault I was obtained for his arrest; police have been searching for Brown since that time.

On March 7th police received information that Brown was staying in a tent near Denali Street and E 40th Avenue.  Brown was taken into custody, without incident, from inside the tent at 10:10 AM.  Brown was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.  Afterwards Brown was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrant.

At 11:59 AM on February 19, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to the area of E 43rd Avenue and Piper Street regarding a shooting.  One adult male has been transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body; his current condition is unknown.

There have been no arrests and there is no suspect description to release as of now.  Anyone who has information regarding this crime, to include surveillance footage of the area, is asked to call APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (press “0”).  To remain anonymous, you may leave a tip online at www.AnchorageCrimeStoppers.com.

There is a large police presence in the 43rd/Dale/Piper/Tudor area.  Please avoid the area and use another route.  If you do need to be in the vicinity, please follow the instructions of the on-scene officers.
