Shots Fired Investigation; Walmart and Fred Meyer Muldoon

Update on 12/5/22:

Initial indications are that four adult males, to include 42-year-old Eric Harried, walked into Walmart.  After leaving, they all walked over to a white Subaru station wagon.  Harried stood on top of the hood of the car, climbed back down, fired at least one shot, and then got into the front passenger side of the Subaru.  The other three males also got into the car and drove out of the parking lot.  No injuries were reported.

Several witnesses had provided statements to APD Dispatch to include the description of the shooter and the vehicle he had left in.  Arriving officers located the Subaru being driven towards Fred Meyer; a felony traffic stop was conducted in the Fred Meyer parking lot.  All four occupants were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives.

Officers seized a gun from inside the Subaru for evidence.  That gun was reported as stolen to APD at the same time officers were handling the shooting call.  The owner stated the gun was taken from the center console of an unlocked vehicle while parked outside a residence on the 6100-block of Winding Way (APD Case 22-39138).  The owner stated he had discovered the theft approximately three hours prior to making the report with police.

At the conclusion of the interviews, Eric Harried was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for violating a domestic violence protective order.  He was additionally charged with Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession and Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV – Firing Recklessly.  The other three males were released without being charged.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.  It appears Harried was in a verbal altercation in the Walmart parking lot with another male at the time the weapon was discharged.  That other male left the scene prior to police arrival; he has not contacted authorities.
