Teenaged Juveniles Charged in Multiple Theft Cases

On August 23, 2020, a handgun was reported as stolen to APD.  The loaded gun was stolen from a vehicle while it was parked in front of a residence on the 4300-block of Wisconsin Street.  The complainant stated he thought his vehicle had been locked but there was no sign of forced entry (APD Case 20-26426).

On June 6, 2024, online reports were filed with APD regarding three shoplifting events that had previously occurred.  The first two happened on May 29th wherein three juveniles entered Bass Pro Shops located at 3046 Mountain View Drive and stole ammunition (APD Case 24-502824).  They committed the same crime that same day at Cabela’s located at 155 W 104th Avenue (APD Case 24-502836).  On June 5th, two juveniles entered Cabela’s and stole ammo (APD Case 24-502835).

On June 8, 2024, Anchorage Police dayshift patrol officers responded to Cabela’s regarding a theft that had happened the day before wherein three juveniles stole ammo from inside the store (APD Case 24-17677).

At 2:39 AM on June 12, 2024, Anchorage Police mid-shift patrol officers responded to a residence on the 900-block of W 40th Avenue regarding a male juvenile who had accidentally shot himself in the lower body.  Upon arrival officers contacted the victim, along with two other males, inside the home.  All three matched the descriptions of the males involved in the previous ammo thefts.  As the investigation progressed, officers located the handgun that had been reported as stolen four years prior.

The injured male was transported to a hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted non-life-threatening wounds.  After being interviewed by detectives, charges for all three were forwarded to the Division of Juvenile Justice.
