Traffic Fatality; E 15th Avenue and Medfra Street

Update on 6/17 at 10:19AM:

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Hashim Abdullahi. Next of kin procedures have been completed.

The intersection at E 15th Avenue and Medfra Street and Westbound lanes of E 15th Avenue at Lake Otis Parkway are now open. Thank you for your patience. 

Update on 6/16 at 1:25AM:

At 11:12 PM on June 15, 2022, officers assigned to Mid Shift Patrol and medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded to a single vehicle collision at 15th Ave and Medfra St.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the adult male driver of a yellow cab, was traveling Westbound on 15th Ave in the right lane, and struck a light pole near Medfra St. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was inside the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.

The name of the driver will be released once next of kin procedures are completed.

Please continue to expect closures and delays in the area for the next couple hours and continue to use alternate routes.

APD and AFD are on location of a vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Medfra Street and 15th Avenue. Westbound 15th Avenue is closed at Lake Otis and the entire intersection at 15th Ave and Medfra St is closed. Please expect closures and delays in the area for the next several hours. Drivers are to use alternate routes.
