Tyler Abbott Faces Multiple Charges in Stolen Vehicle Investigation

At 3:46 AM on April 22, 2022, Midshift Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 3600-block of Wyoming Street in reference to a white GMC Sierra that was parked in an alley running. When officers arrived, they located the vehicle, with three adults sleeping inside. A computer check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen in October 2021.

The officers blocked the GMC in the alleyway with their patrol vehicles. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 25-year-old Tyler J. Abbott, woke up and officers turned on their emergency lights. Abbott saw the patrol vehicles and attempted to escape the block by intentionally ramming into both patrol cars multiple times. The officers were able to pin the vehicle between the two patrol cars and called for backup. Once backup arrived, officers gave verbal warnings for the occupants to exit the vehicle. All three occupants exited the vehicle without further incident, and they were taken into custody.

Tyler Abbott was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Vehicle Theft I, Criminal Mischief 3, Resisting Arrest, and Violation of Conditions of Release.

No one was injured to include the two officers whose vehicles were intentionally rammed by Abbott. The two passengers were released without being charged.
