Original on 7/1/23:

At 7:10 PM on July 1, 2023, Anchorage Police responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision near the intersection of Minnesota Drive and Benson Boulevard.  Initial indications are that an adult female was walking southbound across Benson, not in a crosswalk, when she was struck by a Dodge SUV being driven eastbound on Benson.

AFD Medics also responded; they declared the pedestrian deceased a short time later.  The adult male driver of the Dodge stayed on site and is being cooperative with police.

The Major Collision Investigations Unit (MCIU) has responded to process the scene.  While they do so, the far-right southbound lane of Minnesota will be closed and all eastbound lanes of Benson, at the intersection with Minnesota, are shut down.  Please avoid the area and use another route if you are able.

The victim’s name will be released upon completion of next-of-kin notification procedures.  The investigation is ongoing; no charging decisions have been made.
