Vehicle vs Pedestrian: W 4th Avenue and G Street

Update on 5/30/23:

Traffic Investigators have identified the suspect driver as 30-year-old Carlton A. Tarkington JR.  A felony warrant has been obtained for his arrest for the charges of Assault I, Leaving the Scene – Failure to Render Aid, and Driving under the Influence.

Update on 9/15/22:

Anchorage Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle and its driver involved in the pedestrian versus vehicle hit-and-run collision that occurred just after 2AM on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at W 4th Avenue and G Street.

Attached are photos of the suspect vehicle.  Investigators believe it may be a silver Volkswagen Touareg manufactured between 2004 – 2007.  The passenger side-view mirror, and the area surrounding that mirror, should have been damaged in the collision.

Traffic Advisory: All lanes of traffic at W 4th Ave and G st are now open.

Update on 8/20/22 @ 3:35 AM:

On 08/20/22 at 02:17 AM, Mid Shift Patrol Officers responded area of W 4th Avenue and G Street in reference to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

The preliminary investigation found that a silver sedan was traveling westbound on W 4th Avenue when an adult male pedestrian crossed at the G Street intersection at the crosswalk and was struck by the vehicle. Officers and Medics with the Anchorage Fire Department responded, and the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No charges have been filed at this time.

All traffic on W 4th Avenue is closed between G ST and H ST while officers investigate the scene. Please use alternative routes.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, to include surveillance footage of the area, is asked to contact Police Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or (907)786-8900 (option #0).  Police are currently following up on leads and there is no suspect information to release at this time
