At 10:56 AM on June 27, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to reports of a strong-arm robbery at Fred Meyer at 2000 W Dimond Boulevard.  Citizens reported to APD Dispatch that the adult male suspect had “wrestled” a purse away from a woman and then fled on foot with it.  Citizens gave chase and found the discarded purse. Another caller reported a citizen tried to confront the suspect but the suspect pulled a knife.  No injuries were reported. 

Multiple officers responded.  While some made contact with the victim and witnesses, others looked for the suspect.  Police learned that 29-year-old Vincentt D. McQuaid approached an adult woman, whom he did not know, in the store parking lot and demanded her purse. While the victim tried to hold on to the purse, Vincentt ripped it from her hands and then took off running.  Once Vincentt made his way to a nearby trail, he discarded both the purse and wallet after removing cash and some other items.  When Vincentt was confronted by an adult male citizen who gave chase, Vincentt pulled a knife out which caused the citizen to retreat due to fear of being harmed. 

As Vincentt ran through several nearby neighborhoods via the bike trails, many citizens called in his location to police. Officers walking a trail near the 8200-block of Berry Patch saw Vincentt pop up from where he was lying down in some tall grass. The offices gave Vincentt commands which he initially ignored before finally dropping to his knees and placing his hands behind his back. Vincentt was taken into custody and subsequently confirmed as being the robbery suspect. 

Vincentt McQuaid was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on an unrelated outstanding felony warrant.  He was additionally charged with Robbery I, Assault III, Violate Conditions of Release, and Theft II.   

Police are grateful to all the citizens who assisted by providing excellent witness statements and reporting the suspect’s various locations to police until he was apprehended.
