Zachary Russi Arrested by K9
At 1:53 AM on October 31, 2021, Anchorage Police responded to a residence on the 1300-block of Chirikof Court regarding a disturbance involving 23-year-old Zachary L. Russi. A computer check revealed that Russi had two felony warrants. Russi also had a history of fleeing from police.
Officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the home. As some of the officers attempted to contact Russi at the front door, Russi fled out of the back. A K9 handler gave Russi multiple warnings; Russi ignored the warnings and continued to run away. K9 Ray was deployed; he contacted Russi’s arm which gave officers the opportunity to escort Russi to the ground and apply the handcuffs. Russi remained combative and refused to walk on his own. Russi would also not cooperate with medics at the scene. Due to Russi’s behavior, three officers accompanied Russi to a hospital for treatment of the dog bite. Once he was medically cleared, Russi was transported to the Anchorage Jail for remand. While at the jail, Russi continued to be uncooperative, and he refused to sit down on the bench. As officers were restraining Russi, Russi’s physical combativeness caused one of the officers to sustain a cut on his hand.
Russi was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrants. He was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Police Officer.
