Aaron Drake Charged in Stolen Vehicle Investigation
At 5:41 AM on February 11, 2024, a 2008 silver Toyota Highlander was reported as being stolen from outside a residence on the 2300-block of E 47th Court. The vehicle was parked, unlocked, and had the keys inside at the time it was taken.
At 10:06 AM on February 12th, a citizen reported to APD that the rear license plate had been stolen off the rear of their gray 2018 Toyota Highlander. The theft was noticed by the owner while the vehicle was parked outside a business on the 800-block of Dimond Boulevard. It was believed the plate had been stolen within the previous eight hours, but it was unknown for sure where the vehicle was parked when the plate was taken.
At 2:10 PM on February 13th, a swing shift officer headed into work parked next to a Toyota Highlander outside a business on the 2700-block of E Tudor Road. Initially the officer saw two adult males get out of the Toyota and walk into the restaurant where they contacted a third adult male. The officer went inside and spoke with staff who were uncomfortable due to the erratic behavior of one of the men, later identified as 31-year-old Aaron G. Drake. The officer conducted a computer check on the license plate affixed to the Highlander. That plate came back as being reported stolen the day before. Once backup units arrived, and all three men were detained, officers learned the Toyota itself had been reported as stolen two days prior.
After being interviewed by detectives at the Anchorage Police Department, Aaron Drake was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of Theft II, Vehicle Theft I, and two counts of Violate Conditions of Release. The other two men were not charged.
