 Original on 8/14/24:

At 11:05 PM on August 13, 2024, APD Dispatch began receiving multiple calls regarding an adult male who was firing off a shotgun from a vehicle near the 3300-block of Eagle Street.  Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in a parking lot on the 3600-block of Barrow Street.  The driver and sole occupant, 39-year-old Andres Corona, was compliant and taken into custody without incident.  During their interaction with him, officers noticed signs of impairment.   The decision was made to charge Corona with Driving under the Influence.  Corona declined to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) and refused to provide a breath sample. Corona’s blood was drawn subsequent to a search warrant being obtained.

Andres Corona was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Third Degree – Fire From Vehicle, two counts of Assault in the Third Degree, Driving under the Influence, three counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Second Degree – Fire Gun at a Dwelling, Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the First Degree – Fire From a Vehicle, Refuse to Submit to a Chemical Test, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Fourth Degree – Possess While Intoxicated.

Officers spoke with several witnesses who all gave similar accounts to what had transpired.  It was stated that an agitated male, later identified as Corona, was yelling and walking around with a shotgun.  There were several people in the area when this occurred; Corona reportedly pointed the gun directly at individuals.  Corona then got into a Chevy pickup truck and fired more than one shot from the vehicle as he was driving near citizens.  More than one person expressed being in fear of physical harm due to Corona’s actions.

The motive behind Corona’s behavior is still under investigation.  At least one person indicated Corona may have been involved in a physical altercation prior to him discharging the weapon.  A shotgun was located inside the vehicle Corona was in when police contacted him.  Anyone with information regarding this incident, who have not yet spoke to police, is asked to call APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (press “0”).
