Cyrus Taylor indicted for attempted murder and assault
Update at 7:30PM on 06/24/22:
Today, an Anchorage grand jury returned an indictment charging 36-year-old Cyrus Taylor with one count of attempted first-degree murder, six counts of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault, one count of third-degree assault on a child, two counts of third-degree weapons misconduct, and one count of tampering with physical evidence for a June 4, 2022, shooting incident that injured a woman and a juvenile. In addition, the State of Alaska has charged Taylor with misdemeanor counts for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and violating conditions of release.
These charges are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Taylor is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections. His bail is set at $150,000 cash performance plus conditions of release to include a court approved third-party custodian and house arrest. Taylor faces up to 99 years for the attempted first-degree murder charge, and up to 20 years for each of the first-degree assault charges, up to 10 years for the second-degree assault charge, and up to 5 years for each of the third-degree assault, third-degree weapons misconduct, and tampering with physical evidence charges. Taylor is scheduled to be arraigned before the Anchorage Superior Court on June 27, 2022.
Update at 6:20 PM on 6/4/22:
36-year-old Cyrus G. Taylor was arrested at his home early this morning and transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning. Afterwards he was remanded on the charges of Tampering with Evidence, Misconduct Involving a Weapon III – Felon in Possession, and Violate Conditions of Release.
This is a Domestic Violence related crime. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be forthcoming. The adult female’s injuries are still considered to be life-threatening. The child is expected to survive his injuries.
During the investigation, officers contacted 22-year-old Alexander G. Carlton who had an unrelated outstanding felony warrant. Carlton was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on that warrant (APD Case 22-18034).
Update at 9:15 AM on 6/4/22:
As part of this morning’s assault investigation, the Crime Scene Team has responded to a residence on the 1000-block of W 26th Avenue. There will be a police presence while they work the scene.

At 1:13 AM on June 4, 2022, Anchorage Police responded to a local hospital regarding an adult female and juvenile male who were dropped off there. Upon further investigation, it appears that both may be assault victims; the female’s injuries are believed to be life-threatening. The extent of the child’s injuries is still being determined.
One person has been detained and is being transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning.
The cause and type of the injuries, where they occurred, and who may be involved are still under investigation however, police believe this is an isolated event and there is no public safety concern at this time.
