Body Worn Camera Implementation Update
We want to thank the community for being patient as we work to equip our officers with body-worn cameras and replace our outdated (In-Car Video) system.
The contract with AXON for the Digital Evidence Management system (In-car video, Interview rooms, and Body-worn cameras) was signed last month, and the different systems have started to arrive. Representatives from AXON will be in Anchorage the week of November 13th to provide training and technical assistance.
We will begin deploying the In-car video/body-worn cameras the week of November 13th and will continue the deployment process until all cameras are in the field. The full deployment of all systems depends on the ability of the radio shop to install the In-Car video system. We will have a better idea of this timeline after AXON provides the training and technical assistance to the installers.
The implementation of body cameras for the department is a process that requires careful planning and execution and will take place over the course of several months. The body cameras and in-car systems work together. We will continue to provide updated information at the Public Safety Committee Meetings and will advise the community if there are any delays in the process.
We want to thank the community for its continued support as we add this valuable technology to our investigative tools.
