Carl Washington arrested by K9 Kiska for multiple warrants
On April 28, 2022, at 9:44 p.m., dispatch received a report of a suspect, who the caller recognized as having outstanding warrants, on a bicycle near the 600-block of E 5th Avenue.
Officers with the Patrol Division and K9 Unit responded to the area. They located the male suspect, who later identified as 46-year-old Carl Washington. Washington was with an adult female, whom the suspect was court ordered to have no contact with. A computer check revealed the suspect was wanted on three outstanding warrants for his arrest. Upon seeing the officers, Washington began to flee on the bicycle. Washington fled to the area of 10th and Gambell, where he left the bicycle and then fled on foot. An officer on scene ordered Washington to stop, or a police K9 would be released. Washington continued to ignore commands and continued to flee on foot. K9 Kiska was released and apprehended Washington by biting his upper body. Washington continued to ignore commands and resisted arrest but was subsequently taken to the ground and handcuffed by officers. An illegal substance was also found in Washington’s possession.
Washington was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Washington was remanded at the Anchorage Jail for the three outstanding warrants, Assault in the 3rd Degree and Assault in the 4th Degree, Robbery in the 2nd Degree and Theft in the 3rd Degree, and Felony Escape in the 2nd Degree. He also faces additional charges of Resisting Arrest, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Contact.
No officers, including K9 Kiska, were injured.
