On August 7, 2022, a 2011 gray Grand Jeep Cherokee was reported as stolen to Anchorage Police. The vehicle was parked outside a residence on the 4000-block of E 6th Avenue at the time it was taken. The owner’s wallet and the vehicle keys were inside the Jeep at the time of the theft.
On August 9, 2022, the theft of Washington state license plates was reported to APD. The complainant stated both the front and rear plates were stolen off a 2014 gray Jeep Cherokee while it was parked outside a residence on the 3200 block of Latouche Street.
At 11:21 PM on August 14, 2022, a mid-shift patrol officer saw a Jeep Cherokee being driven onto Eide Street from C Street. A computer check of the rear license plate on the vehicle revealed the plate belonged on a Ford Focus that had been reported as stolen to Fairbanks PD the month prior.
The officer followed the Jeep until backup units arrived. A K9 officer saw the Jeep and confirmed the license plate on the front of the vehicle had been issued out of Washington state. Officers initiated a traffic stop when the Jeep was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and W Northern Lights Boulevard. The driver of the Jeep accelerated and hit one of the patrol vehicles that was blocking the Jeep in. The driver turned the wheel to the left in another attempt to drive out of the block but she was unsuccessful. The adult female driver exited the Jeep and began yelling at the police; she was taken into custody without further incident.
A computer check of the Jeep’s VIN verified it was the same vehicle that had been reported as stolen on August 7th. It was also discovered the Washington plate displayed on the front of the car had been reported as stolen on August 9th. When officers looked inside the Jeep, they saw a plastic bindle of meth lying in plain view in the driver side door handle. During the pat search, meth was recovered from the driver’s person.
21-year-old Dominique S. Standifer-Johnson was transported to the Anchorage Police Department for questioning by detectives. Afterwards she was driven to Hiland Correctional for remand. During processing, Corrections Officers found ID on Dominique’s person that belonged to other people. Dominique was charged with Vehicle Theft I, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance V, Fail to Stop, Criminal Mischief III, Conceal Identity of a Vehicle, two counts of Theft II – Access Device, Theft II – All Other Larceny, and Assault III.
When Dominique rammed the officer’s vehicle, she caused injury to the officer’s hand. Medical treatment was not required. Due to the damage the officer’s car sustained, the officer was only able to exit the vehicle by crawling through to the passenger side.
