Dylan Marks Arrested During Traffic Detail

APD Officers are currently working traffic details on the Seward Highway that are funded by the Alaska Highway Safety Office (AHSO) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  On August 26, 2024, our Traffic Sergeant was working one such detail near mile 95.5 when he conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Subaru Forester that was being driven at 81 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.  The suspect driver was also passing other motorists unsafely, almost striking at least two other vehicles in the process.

While conversing with the driver and sole occupant, 32-year-old Dylan D. Marks, the sergeant noticed signs of impairment. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were conducted after which the decision was made to charge Marks with Operating under the Influence.  After Marks was placed into handcuffs, he requested the sergeant retrieve his cell phone from his Subaru.  When the sergeant retrieved the phone, he saw a loaded handgun on the passenger seat.  The weapon was seized for evidence.

Marks was transported to the jail for further processing.  Once there he provided a breath sample showing his breath alcohol content was almost two times the legal limit.  Dylan Marks was remanded at the Anchorage Correctional Complex on the charges of OUI and Firearms – Drunk in Possession.

We are headed into Labor Day – our last official camping weekend of the year.  Please be safe.  All us locals know how treacherous our highways can be due to vehicle operators who make poor driving decisions.  We all have a responsibility towards one another to allow each of us to return home safely.  You should only ever occupy a driver’s seat if you are 100% sober.  If you see anyone driving in a reckless manner, please remember our REDDI program.  Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately by calling 9-1-1.  We have eyes on the road, but we need all of you watching too.
