EUGENE MORGAN ARRESTED AFTER ELUDING POLICE

At 9:52 AM on May 31, 2024, a vehicle was spotted traveling 92 MPH near Eklutna Village Road on the outbound Glenn Highway. When an APD officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle eluded the officer. APD alerted the Alaska State Troopers (AST) of the suspect vehicle which would be entering their jurisdiction at a high rate of speed. AST located the vehicle committing a moving violation on the Glenn Highway and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver eluded the Trooper, turned around, and was now driving back in the direction of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway. Both APD and AST deployed multiple sets of vehicle spike strips at different locations on the highway in an attempt to disable the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle drove over one set of spikes, puncturing one of the vehicle’s tires, but the vehicle persisted. The suspect vehicle continued southbound, driving erratically, weaving in and out of traffic, and accelerating to speeds of over 100 MPH. The suspect vehicle drove over another set of spike strips which punctured all four of the vehicle’s tires and the vehicle began to slow.

Near the southbound Glenn Highway Muldoon exit, AST vehicles contacted and blocked in the disabled vehicle. APD officers identified the driver as 39-year-old Eugene Morgan, a convicted felon who was found to be carrying a firearm. Morgan was placed under arrest without further incident and charged with 2 counts of Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Police Officer, Misconduct Involving a Weapon, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, and Driving on a Revoked license. Morgan was transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex on his charges.

In addition to the charges, Eugene Morgan was on Anchorage’s Scofflaw list owing $3,330 in outstanding delinquent traffic citations. The vehicle was impounded for Scofflaw. (To learn more about Scofflaw, please visit: https://scofflaw.muni.org).
