Four people charged in vehicle theft investigation

At 6:27 AM on March 14, 2022, a 2019 red Dodge Ram was reported as stolen to APD.  The unoccupied vehicle parked on the 9700-block of Morningside Loop when it was taken; there was a spare set of keys inside the truck.   Dispatch aired a locate for the stolen Dodge over the radio.

Not long after, at 7:20 AM, mid-shift patrol officers located the stolen Dodge parked at Sorbus Way and Crataegus Avenue.  Upon arrival, multiple officers blocked the Dodge in with their patrol vehicles.  There were two adult males and two adult females with the truck.  Upon seeing police, the two males fled on foot all the while ignoring officers’ commands to stop.  One of the adult females was detained.  The second adult female began walking away but she was quickly taken into custody.

One of the adult males, later identified as 26-year-old Luke A. Sandvik, ran about ten feet before falling into the snow; he had items in his hands.  Once he was down, Sandvik became compliant, and he was taken into custody without further incident.  A computer search revealed he had a local outstanding felony warrant along with an outstanding federal arrest warrant.  Officers were able to determine the items Sandvik was carrying belonged to the owner of the stolen truck.

The second adult male walked away from the truck and did not stop as instructed to do so by the officers.  An officer went hands on, escorted him to the ground, and took him into custody.  The male gave police a name, date of birth, and social security number that were not his own.  The man refused to provide his real information even after he was issued a False Information warning.  The male was ultimately identified through his fingerprints as 46-year-old Adam J. Martin.  On Martin’s person, officers found lock picking tools and the keys to the Ram.  A computer check revealed that Martin had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants and that he was under Department of Corrections (DOC) Pretrial Supervision.  APD officers contacted DOC and were advised to charge Martin with Escape.

All four individuals were transported to the Anchorage Police Department to be questioned by detectives.  Afterwards, 36-year-old Kristy K. Fathke and 31-year-old Sarah J. Norton were each charged with Criminal Mischief V – Riding in a Stolen Vehicle.

Luke Sandvik was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his warrants.  He was charged with Criminal Mischief V – Riding in a Stolen Vehicle, Theft III, and Fugitive from Justice.

Adam Martin was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on his two warrants.  He was additionally charged with Escape III, Possession of Burglary Tools, Vehicle Theft I, Theft I, Violate Conditions of Release, and False Information.
